51s Host the Iowa Cubs & Omaha Royals in 8-Game Homestand from May 11-18

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will open an eight-game homestand on Tuesday, May 11 against the Iowa Cubs, Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, at Cashman Field. The four-game series against the Cubs will run through Friday, May 14 with all games at 7:05 p.m. The 51s will then host the Omaha Royals, Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, in a four-game series, from Saturday-Tuesday, May 15-18. Las Vegas will play 16 straight games against the American Conference from May 11-27.

The 51s, under manager Dan Rohn, are currently tied for third place in the Pacific Southern Division, 13-17, 5.5 games behind first-place Fresno. The eight-game road trip will conclude in Tacoma, Wash., against the Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, on Monday.

Ryne Sandberg Bobblehead Night will be presented on Tuesday, May 11. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a bobblehead of the hall of famer and Chicago Cubs great. Sandberg enters his fourth year as a minor league manager in the Cubs organization and his first season with Triple-A Iowa. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on July 31, 2005 and the Cubs retired his No. 23 jersey on August 28, 2005. Sandberg is a 10-time National League All-Star and a nine-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner at second base.

He retired following the 1997 campaign after an outstanding 15-year major league career. He had a .285 average (2,386-for-8,385) with 282 home runs and 1,061 RBI. He was named the 1984 N.L. MVP and The Sporting News major league player of the year and won a total of seven Silver Slugger Awards. He had a career .989 fielding percentage at second base, the highest career mark at that position in M.L. history.

Budweiser Dollar Beer Night will be featured in game three of the four game series on Thursday. Proper identification and wristbands are required for dollar beer night. The 51s will team up with Cover Up, Nevada!, in recognition of Melonoma and Skin Cancer Prevention and Detection Week. Fans will be able to visit the "Cover Up, Nevada!" table in the concourse that will have pamphlets on skin cancer prevention and free sunscreen. Mrs. Nevada (2009-10) April Swartz will "throw out" the ceremonial first pitch.

The finale of the four-game series on Friday will feature 51s Bucket Hat Night, sponsored by Findlay Toyota, to the first 2,500 fans through the gates.

Iowa's roster features two of the top 10 prospects in the Cubs organization, according to Baseball America: right-handed pitchers Andrew Cashner (No. 4) and Jay Jackson (No. 5). Cashner is scheduled to make his Triple-A debut against Las Vegas on Tuesday. In six starts, at Double-A Tennessee, he compiled a 3-1 record with a 2.75 ERA.

Las Vegas will then open a four-game series against the Omaha Royals on Saturday, May 15 at 7:05 p.m. 51s Radio Night will be presented to the first 2,500 fans through the gates. Shrek Night, brought to you by McDonald's, will also be featured. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a limited time collectible Shrek glass. Shrek prize packs will be given away during the game and a post-game "Fireworks Show" will highlight the evening. Shrek will take center field as Ronald McDonald will "throw out" the ceremonial first pitch. Fans dressed as Shrek will receive one free general admission ticket.

Game two of the series on Sunday, May 16 will feature a matinee contest at 12:05 p.m. Little League Day will be featured with selected 51s players signing pre-game autographs for little league players.

Entering its second season, Monday "home" games will feature "Value Menu" as the 51s and Aramark have teamed together for discounted food items on Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Peanuts, Cracker Jacks and Pretzels for just $1.00 per item. The Monday contest between the Royals and 51s will begin at 7:05 p.m.

The finale of the eight-game homestand on Tuesday, May 18 will feature "The Seventh Annual Cox Communications School Day" featuring a field trip to 5th grade students in the Clark County School District for the special start time of 10:30 a.m.

Las Vegas Third Homestand Release. . . .2-2-2-2

Over the past six seasons, a total of 47,045 fans have attended the morning games. Last season (May 11, 2009), a crowd of 10,405 attended the game between Sacramento/Las Vegas. The 51s hosted Tucson in the inaugural "school day" game on May 6, 2004, before a crowd of 4,224.

The Tobacco Awareness Program, through the Clark County School District, is an important event that takes place prior to the "School Day" game that serves to educate the young students on the dangers of cigarette smoking.

Omaha's roster features one of the top 10 prospects in the Royals organization, according to Baseball America: outfielder David Lough (No. 10).

The 51s broadcast all games on Lotus Broadcasting on Fox Sports Radio 920 AM, which will carry live all 144 regular season games. Also, all games will be available on the 51s website (Major League Baseball Advanced Media, MLBAM) at http://www.lv51.com/. Russ Langer, the five-time Nevada Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA), is in his 11th season behind the microphone calling 51s baseball.

Following the eight-game homestand, the PCL has a scheduled off day on Wednesday, May 19. Las Vegas will then embark on an eight-game road trip beginning on Thursday, May 20 to Albuquerque, N.M., to face the Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The four-game series will run through Sunday, May 23. The road trip will continue to Round Rock, Texas, to face the Express, Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, from Monday-Thursday, May 24-27.

Tickets for all 51s home games can be purchased at the Cashman Field box office. The box office is open Monday-Friday (non game days) from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased through Ticketmaster (1-800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com). Ticketmaster outlets are located at selected Smith's Food & Drug, Ritmo Latino and the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino.

The individual game tickets for the 72-game home season are priced at $9.00 (general admission), $10.00 (reserved), $12.00 (plaza) and $14.00 (field). The traditional $2.00 discount for Military personnel is offered on plaza, reserved and G.A. seats throughout the season except for the holiday fireworks shows on July 2 & 3 (all seats at $14.00).
