Isotopes Ride Four-Run First Inning to 7-5 Victory against Chihuahuas

NEED TO KNOW: Riding a four-run first inning, the Albuquerque Isotopes (42-50) secured a series-opening 7-5 victory against the El Paso Chihuahuas (44-48) Monday night at Isotopes Park.

CRITICAL MOMENT: Trayvon Robinson led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, and Carl Crawford reached on error before stealing second. After a pop up to the first baseman for the first out, Tim Federowicz stepped to plate with runners on second and third and blasted a two-RBI double into the right field corner. He later scored on a single from Brock Peterson. Two more singles from Walter Ibarra and Delvis Morales would cap the four-run first and send the Isotopes onto a 7-5 win.

CARL, CARL, CARL: Outfielder Carl Crawford completed his third rehab game with the Isotopes, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI, one stolen base and a triple. So far with Albuquerque, he is 3-for-9 with three runs scored, one RBI, one stolen base and a triple. Crawford is scheduled to play in Tuesday night's 7:05 p.m. game.

TABLE SETTERS: Trayvon Robinson and Carl Crawford were the first two batters in Albuquerque's lineup Monday night, and each reached base in their first two trips to the plate. Robinson doubled to leadoff the game, while Crawford reached on an error. In the second inning, Robinson walked and then scored on a triple by Crawford. They combined for four runs scored, a walk and an RBI on the night.

CLEANING THEM UP: Tim Federowicz and Brock Peterson went a combined 4-for-8 with three runs scored, two extra-base hits and four RBI from the four and five holes in the lineupMonday night. Peterson also hit his first home run since joining the Isotopes on June 2. He led the Pacific Coast league with 25 homers in 2013 with Memphis.

DELVIS IS STILL IN THE BUILDING: Second baseman Delvis Morales has a hit in six straight games after a 2-for-3 performance Monday night with an RBI and a walk. During that streak, he is batting .563 (9-for-16) with three runs scored, two doubles two RBI and a walk.

A CARPENTER'S FRAME: Starting pitcher Drew Carpenter lasted six innings in his second start, third appearance, with the Isotopes, giving up five runs on five hits. Four of those runs came in the fifth inning alone. Three of his six innings were 1-2-3 frames, while he faced only four batters in two other innings. Carpenter improved to 2-0 on the season with both of his victories coming against theChihuahuas.

ON DECK: The Topes and El Paso will play game two of their four-game set Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Stephen Fife (2-2, 6.62 ERA) is set to take the hill for Albuquerque, while El Paso will go with righty Chris Smith (2-1, 4.15 ERA).

IN THE HOLE: Following the El Paso series, the Isotopes will travel to Las Vegas for a short three-game, two-day series prior to the All-Star Break. The Topes and 51s will play a doubleheader on Friday, July 11, at 6:05 p.m. MT followed by a single game at 6:05 p.m. that Saturday. The All-Star Break is July 13-16.
