Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

METAIRIE, La. -- Tony Gwynn, Jr. made two spectacular catches in center field and Brian Barden hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to lift the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 5-1 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday night at Zephyr Field.

Isotopes starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez (7-3) pitched five scoreless innings. He didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. Sanchez walked six and struck out eight. Sanchez was aided by the first catch of Gwynn's -- a full-extension diving catch in left-center in the fourth inning to rob Nick Green of a hit. At the time, the Zephyrs had a runner at first base and one out.

The Z's only run scored in the seventh inning. Kevin Mattison walked, Gil Velazquez singled, and after a strikeout, Kevin Kouzmanoff singled home a run.

Kyle Jensen followed with a deep drive in right-center and Gwynn made the catch as he crashed into the fence. That saved at least two runs.

The Topes scored their first run on an Eliezer Alfonzo bloop double in the first inning. Two more runs scored on bloop singles to right field, by Damaso Espino and pinch hitter John Baker, in the sixth inning.

Barden delivered an impressive two-run homer in the seventh to straightaway center field, his fifth home run of the season.

Chris Withrow pitched a scoreless eighth and Kelvin De La Cruz closed it out in the ninth.

The final game of the 2013 season is Monday afternoon. Matt Magill starts for Albuquerque. Elih Villanueva starts for New Orleans. First pitch is at 12 Noon MT and can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
