Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, Ca.---Fresno Grizzlies (67-74) third baseman Chris Dominguez (15) belted a first inning Grand Slam leading his squad to a 7-1 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (66-75) on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park. It was Dominguez's first Grand Slam of the season, and the first such homer at home this year for Fresno.
Dominguez' belt was set up courtesy of a one-out single by left fielder Kensuke Tanaka, who was followed by a single to right by right fielder Francisco Peguero, and walk to first baseman Johnny Monell. The Grand Slam was the third hit by Fresno this year as Juan Perez, and Monell have the others. It was Dominguez fourth Grand Slam in his professional career as he has one in each of the last four years.
Fresno right-handed starter Daryl Maday was lifted after a pitch count of 58 worked four innings. He gave up three hits, one run (earned), he walked one, and struck out two. Right-handed reliever Fabio Castillo (4-5) pitched two shutout innings en route to the win. He struck out two. Right-hander Steve Edlefsen, lefty Dan Ruzler, and righty Brett Bochy each pitched a scoreless inning.
Fresno added another run in the fourth, and two more runs in the eighth. In the eighth it was a triple by shortstop Ehire Adrianza that scored one of the runs. It was Adrianza's second triple of the game. He's the first Grizzlie to have two triples in one game since Peguero last year at Albuquerque.
Colorado Springs right-handed starter Chris Volstad (7-6) pitched six innings. He gave up seven hits, five runs (all earned), he walked three, struck out three, and gave up the Grand Slam.
The penultimate game of the 2013 season will be on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. Left-hander Nick Schmidt (4-3) will start for Colorado Springs against Fresno right-hander Justin Fitzgerald (2-7).
