Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa - Leland Irving turned away all 37 shots he faced as the Grand Rapids Griffins fell 3-0 to the Iowa Wild on Monday at Wells Fargo Arena.

With three games remaining in the regular season for each of the top four teams in the Central Division, third-place Grand Rapids (90 pts.) remains one point behind Lake Erie in the race for home-ice advantage in the opening round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. The Griffins return to Van Andel Arena on Wednesday for their 12th and final regular season meeting against the Monsters at 7 p.m.

Colton Beck started the scoring unassisted for Iowa (24-39-5-5) one minute into the hockey game. After grabbing the loose puck at the left circle, Beck walked into the slot and sent a backhand shot along the ice past the right pad of Tom McCollum.

Alex Petan scored his first professional goal on the power play at the 9:17 mark of the middle frame. Zack Mitchell sent a pass across the goal mouth to Petan below the left circle for a shot high to the blocker side.

Chase Lang gave the Wild a 3-0 cushion with 14:03 remaining in the third. A Guillaume Gelinas wrist shot from the right point deflected off the stick of Lang in front and dipped inside the right post.

Iowa finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Griffins (44-27-1-1) were unable to score on two opportunities, McCollum stopped 25 of 28 shots in his second loss in his last 13 appearances.

Three Stars: 1. IA Irving (W, 37 saves, SO); 2. IA Petan (goal); 3. IA Lang (goal)

Notes: The Griffins are 37-15-1-1 against Central Division opponents this season.
