Hurricanes Assign Murphy to Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Murphy will join the Checkers for the team's final two regular-season games on Thursday and Friday in Cleveland against the Lake Erie Monsters. Charlotte is locked in a tight race for a spot in the AHL's Western Conference playoffs, and can secure a postseason berth with wins in both games against the Monsters.

Murphy, 23, has split the 2015-16 season between the Hurricanes and the Checkers. He earned 10 assists in 35 NHL games with Carolina, and has scored seven goals and earned 15 assists (22 points) in 30 AHL games with Charlotte. The Aurora, Ont., native is in his third full professional season, and has totaled six goals and 29 assists (35 points) in 124 career NHL games, along with 10 goals and 53 assists (63 points) in 80 career AHL games. The Hurricanes drafted Murphy (5'11", 185 lbs.) in the first round, 12th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft.
