Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
The Aberdeen IronBirds (17-9) took the rubber match of their 3 game set against Hudson Valley (15-11) on Wednesday night, by the score of 4-2. Starter Luis Ramirez was exceptional again, but earned a no decision after going 5.2 innings and allowing 2 earned on 5 hits with no walks and 8 more K's.
Reliever Richard Acosta earned the win pitching relief, and is now 3-0. He entered with 2 outs in the 6th and the leading run on second base. Before he threw a pitch, the IronBirds were out of the inning, as he picked the runner off of second.
The 'Birds put up single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 8th innings. Rehabbing Eugene Kingsale went 1-4 with a triple and a run scored. Quincy Ascencion DH'ed tonight, and had a tremendous game, going 3-4 with a double, 2 runs scored and an RBI. CJ Smith had a triple to continue his hot streak, and scored a run. Catcher Brian Bock may have had the best game of any IronBird, as he was 3-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.
Dave Haehnel entered the 9th up 2 runs, and tied for the league lead in saves with 5. After a leadoff double that was flared down the rightfield line, he struck out the next three batters, all swinging, to record his 6th save of the year.
The 'Birds now play 2 games in Hudson Valley on Thursday and Friday before playing 6 in a row at home. Ryan Childs will start the opener, and Carlos Perez will start the finale, with both games set for 7:11 p.m.
