WEEKLY WRAP-UP: The Cardinals went 2-3 last week, taking the series finale from Tri-City (Houston Astros), losing three to Hudson Valley (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) and winning the series opener over Staten Island (New York Yankees). They are currently 11-13 on the season and in 4th place of the MacNamara Division of the New York-Penn League, 4.5 games behind division leading Brooklyn (New York Mets) and Aberdeen (Baltimore Orioles).
BIRDS WITH BATS: The Cards are batting .247 as a team, 9th in the league&3B Jake Mullinax ranks among the league leaders in batting average (.337 9th) and hits (28 8th)&He had his 11-game hitting streak snapped on July 9 against Hudson Valley&He is 5-for-9 (.555) over the last two games&OF Sean Dobson batted .333 (7-for-21) in the Cards five games this week&2B Chris Patrick had a 9-game hitting streak snapped on July 7&During the streak, he batted .400 (16-for-40), scored 10 runs and drove in 6 more&Since June 29, OF Steve Sherman has hit safely in 8 out of 9 games with an official at-bat, going 12-for-31 (.387) with 6 RBI&OF Wes Swackhamer has hit safely in his last 3 games, recording 5 hits in 13 at-bats (.385) and 3 RBI&C Brady Toops has hit safely in each of his last 4 games with an at-bat, batting .308 (4-13) over the span&1B Casey Grimm has hit safely in his last 4 games with an official at-bat, hitting at .400 (6-for-15) clip.
BIRDS ON THE HILL: The Cards have a 4.89 team ERA, last in the league&RHP Michael Parisi turned in his best start of the season on Wednesday, pitching 6 innings and allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3 to pick up the win over Staten Island&RHP Jason John pitched 6 shut out innings, allowed only 2 hits and picked up 6 strikeouts on July 7 as the Cardinals pitching staff recorded its first shut out of the season&LHP Jackson Paz broke a 5.1 scoreless innings streak when he allowed a run on July 11 to Hudson Valley&RHP Chris Bova has not allowed a run in his last 4.1 innings of work overall, and his last 9 innings of work at Skylands Park&RHP Miguel Aguero and RHP Derek Roper are tied for 6th in the league with 28 strikeouts&Aguero also ranks 5th in the league with 29.2 innings pitched.
THE WEEK AHEAD: The Cards return to action tonight when they travel to Staten Island. They are back at Skylands Park at 7:15 pm on Thursday night and then hit the road for a five-game road trip. The club returns home on Tuesday at 7:15 pm when they open a three game set with Jamestown (Florida Marlins). Thursday night Denny Tilton and Friends will entertain the crowd before, during and after the game and the first installment of the Miller Lite Bat Bonanza will take place while on Tuesday night Monkey Boy will be at Skylands Park presented by KFC and the Daily Record and there is a post-game party at the Hampton House Bar & Grill with Cardinals players, coaches and staff.
