Iowa Wild News Release
Oklahoma City, OK - The Iowa Wild (27-36-7-6, 67 points) were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons (36-29-2-9, 83 points) 3-2 in a shootout in front of 4,837 fans at Cox Convention Center on Saturday night. The Barons scored twice in the third period, both times erasing a one-goal deficit to force overtime and the eventual shootout. Oklahoma City went three of five in the shootout, with Josh Winquist scoring the difference maker in the fourth round. Iowa rookies Tyler Graovac and defenseman Dylan Labbe each scored regulation goals in the loss. In his North American debut, Barons' rookie goalie Frans Tuohimaa (1-0-0) made 38 saves in regulation and stopped three of five attempts in the shootout. Wild goalie Johan Gustafsson (12-20-4) made 29 saves in regulation and stopped two of five attempts in the shootout defeat. Iowa's regular season concludes, while Oklahoma City moves on to the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs.
The Wild stormed out of the gates, outshooting the Barons 12-4 en route to a 1-0 first-period lead. The only goal of the period came at 8:59, off the stick of rookie defenseman Dylan Labbe. Forwards Jake Dowell and Carson McMillan set up the play, as Labbe carried the puck wide down the right side, snapping a wrist shot through traffic and past goalie Frans Tuohimaa for his first pro goal.
After a scoreless second period, the Barons struck for a power-play goal at 7:43 of the final frame. Defenseman Jordan Osterle rifled a shot from the blueline, beating goalie Johan Gustafsson for his first pro goal and a 1-1 tie. Forward Austin Fyten and goalie Frans Tuohimaa each picked an assist on the play. Iowa countered back to regain the lead at 12:57, as forward Tyler Graovac split the defense to create a one-on-one opportunity with the Barons netminder. Graovac slipped a shot between the legs of Tuohimaa for his 13th goal of the year and a 2-1 Iowa lead. Forward Jamie MacQueen had the lone assist on the play. The Barons countered at 15:48 with a tally by defenseman Martin Gernat, who beat Gustafsson with a shot from the high slot. Forwards Kellen Jones and Curtis Hamilton each had the assist on the game-tying goal.
After a scoreless overtime the two teams went to a shootout. Barons Josh Winquist, Jack Combs and C.J. Stretch scored, while Iowa's Carson McMillan and Zack Phillips each scored in the shootout defeat.
