Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators rounded out its 2013-14 regular season tonight with a 4-2 victory over the visiting Norfolk Admirals. The B-Sens did the majority of damage in the opening 20 minutes with three goals before surviving a Admirals third period push to head into the playoffs on a two-game win streak.
Buddy Robinson scored his first of two goals 7:34 into the first period when he tipped a shot from Shane Prince past Igor Bobkov to give the 1-0 lead.
Less than one minute later, Matt Puempel notched his 30th goal when he put a rebound past Bobkov following a wrist shot from Cody Ceci making the score 2-0.
Ryan Dzingel pushed the score to 3-0 on his second goal as a professional just before the midway point of the first. Binghamton carried the three-goal advantage to the first intermission as starting goaltender Scott Greenham stopped all seven shots faced through the opening 20 minutes of play.
Following a scoreless second period, Norfolk got on the scoreboard at the 9:18 mark of the third when former Binghamton Senator Andre Petersson notched a power-play goal to cut the score to 3-1. Kevin Gagne made it a one-goal contest with less than two minutes to play, but Robinson converted on an empty-net opportunity with four seconds remaining to put the final score at 4-2.
Robinson finished with two goals for the second time in three contests while Dzingel finished with a goal and an assist to lead the B-Sens. Prince chipped in two helpers while Gagne led all Norfolk skaters with a goal and an assist.
Greenham played the first 33 minutes for Binghamton stopping all 16 shots faced. Chris Driedger made his first B-Sens appearance in net allowing two goals on 22 shots faced. Bobkov allowed four goals on 29 shots in the losing effort.
