Iowa Wolves Mount Second-Half Comeback to Defeat Birmingham Squadron

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron (0-3), NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, fell to the Iowa Wolves (2-0) 115-113 in their first home game of the 2021-22 regular season.

The Wolves rallied late with an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter, ultimately fighting back from a 16-point deficit that began in the third quarter. Iowa finally took the lead with just over three minutes left in the game - a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the game. The Squadron would keep it close, trimming the lead to two with 33.7 seconds left to go.

After a key stop on defense, Birmingham was left with six seconds for a final shot, but was stopped short by a steal from Iowa guard McKinley Wright IV that sealed the victory for the Wolves.

Five Wolves players scored in double figures, including a season-high 30 points and 17 rebounds for guard Brian Bowen II, his sixth double-double of the season. Also posting a double-double was Wright IV with 18 points and 12 assists.

Two-way guard Jared Harper returned to Birmingham for his after a stint with the Pelicans and registered a team-high 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Guard Joe Young continues his scoring tear, posting a very efficient 27 points on 10 of 15 attempts (.667). Young also added three rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Up Next: The Squadron take on the Salt Lake City Stars (0-1) at home Sunday January 16 at 2:00 p.m. One day before the national holiday, Birmingham will be hosting an MLK Celebration in Legacy Arena, and the game will air on NBA TV.
