Skyforce Withstand Stars Rally for Road Win

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars (0-1) rallied from 24 points down in the second half but came up short in a 115-95 loss to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (1-0) at Bruin Arena on Saturday night.

Brendan Bailey notched a career-high 19 points (5-10 FGA) to lead the Stars. Tra-Deon Hollins impressed in his Stars debut, notching a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists, while MaCio Teague added 15 points off the bench for a Salt Lake City team playing their first home game since Dec. 8.

D.J. Stewart led the Skyforce with 30 points on 12-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-8 from deep. Micah Potter added 14 points, 14 rebounds and six assists for Sioux Falls.

The Skyforce outscored the Stars 41-20 in the second quarter behind seven made three-pointers and zero turnovers in the period.

The Stars showed their grit as they chipped away at the Skyforce lead throughout the second half. Salt Lake City was able to cut the lead to seven with 8:34 left in the 4th quarter after a made free-throw (two points) from Hollins. Tarkus Ferguson responded with a corner-three, giving him 19 points for the game and pushing the Skyforce lead back to double digits.

The Skyforce were able to hang on from there on out, earning their first win of the 2021-22 NBA G League regular season.

The two teams will be off tomorrow before they meet for round-two on Monday night at Bruin Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
