Iowa Re-Charges; Energy Hand Vipers First Loss 130-117

HIDALGO, Texas - Moses Ehambe scored a game high 33 points to lead the Iowa Energy as they knocked off the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 130-117 Thursday night at the State Fame Arena. The loss if the first for the Vipers in the 2011-12 season falling to 3-1, as the Energy pick up their second win of the year improving to 2-2.

The Vipers struggled with their shooting on Thursday as they made just 13 of their 44 three-point attempts to the tune of 29.5%. The Energy in-turn shot 63% from the field for the game to keep the game out of reach for RGV.

The Vipers built an early 10 point lead on the Energy. Tyren Johnson's lay-up with 3:29 remaining in the first quarter put RGV ahead 21-11. The Energy claimed the lead with 5:12 to play in the second quarter after Michael Tveidt's jumper. The two squads traded the lead a pair of times until Iowa took the lead for good at 48-47 with a Moses Ehambe jumper at 3:38 to play in the second quarter. That sparked a 14-4 run to close out the half.

The Energy built the lead up to 19 at 74-55 after a 9-0 run in the third quarter, capped off by Ehambe's three-point play with 7:35 to play in the third. The Vipers closed the deficit down to four at 117-113, but were unable to close in any further.

Ehambe added eight rebounds to his 33 point total. His starting back-court partner Brandon Ewing also had a strong night with 30 points and a game high 12 assists. Jarrid Famous tallied his second straight double-double in as many nights with 21 points and 14 rebounds. The Energy out-rebounded the Vipers 45-40.

Johnson had a break-out game for Rio Grande Valley as he scored a Viper season high of 32 points with eight rebounds to lead the RGV scoring load. Harris had another solid game for RGV by scoring 25 with seven boards and eight assists. Stanley Asumnu added 16 while Kelvin Lewis added 14.

The Vipers will go on their first road trip of the season next week as the head to the West Coach for three. The Vipers will face the Bakersfield Jam on Sunday at the Jam Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM Central time. The Vipers will face the Los Angeles D-Fenders for two games on Monday and Wednesday.
