Stampede Take First Win of Season

BOISE, Idaho, December 2, 2011 - Seth Tarver scored a game-high 22 points (10-19 FG) and pulled down seven rebounds as the Stampede (1-3) beat the Dakota Wizards 97-92 at CenturyLink Arena for their first win of the year. Cheyne Gadson (16 points, seven rebounds, six assists), Tony Bobbitt (11 points, three steals) and Mildon Ambres (14 points, eight rebounds) added to the effort.

The Stampede out-rebounded Dakota 50-46, and made 24-of-33 free throws in the win, committing just 12 turnovers along the way. Idaho hit its stride in the second quarter, making 10-of-21 shots and eight free throws, while holding the Wizards to just 12 points. The Stampede stayed hot in the third quarter, making 12-of-22 shots and building the lead up to 22 points. For the game, Idaho made 13 more free throws, overcoming a poor shooting night from the field (40.5 FG%, 31.3 3FG%).

Dakota (2-2) was led by Anthony Goods, who had 19 points, while Edwin Ubiles added 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Maurice Baker fouled out with 16 points, five assists and four steals. The Wizards outscored the Stampede 34-23 in the final quarter, making 64.7 percent of their shots. Dakota shot 47.4 percent from the field for the game, but made just 50.0 percent of their free throws and committed 17 turnovers, which led to 20 points for Idaho.

The Stampede play next on Dec. 8 at the Bakersfield Jam at 8 p.m. (MST).
