Iowa Powers Way to Sweep of Albuquerque

May 30, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Iowa Cubs (23-26) completed a four-game sweep of the Albuquerque Isotopes (22-29) with a 11-0 win on Monday afternoon at Principal Park. The Isotopes have now last 11 of their last 13 games.

Neither team could get on the scoreboard for the first five innings of the game, let alone get a runner to third base. Isotopes starter Jordan Lyles struck out eight batters during that time, which is tied for the most by an Albuquerque pitcher in a single-game this season.

The I-Cubs broke through in the sixth inning erupting for 10 runs. Lyles got the first batter he faced in the sixth to fly out, before Iowa struck for six-consecutive hits with fours runs scoring to chase him from the ballgame. Ryan Carpenter then came into pitch and surrendered six runs before recording his first out. Iowa's big hit of the inning came from Wilson Contreras who hit a grand slam over the right-center field wall. Contreras homered again the eighth inning with a solo shot to extend the I-Cubs lead to 11-0.

The Isotopes will now head back to Albuquerque to begin a four-game series tomorrow against the Fresno Grizzlies (Triple-A Astros). Tomorrow's pitching matchup features Albuquerque's Harrison Musgrave (1-1, 5.54) against Fresno's Joe Musgrove (2-0, 2.00). The series opener will get underway from Isotopes Park at 7:05 p.m.
