Grizzlies and Sky Sox tie 6-6 on Memorial Day

The Fresno Grizzlies and Colorado Springs Sky Sox played to a 6-6 tie over 10 innings on Monday afternoon. The series finale was called due to a travel curfew; with Colorado Springs having a flight to catch in the evening, it was decided prior to the game no inning could begin after 2:30 p.m.

Reliever James Hoyt finished the final two innings for the Grizzlies, striking out four and walking one. Due to the tie, there was no winning or losing pitcher.

The Grizzlies scored first in the bottom of the third when Andrew Aplin (2-for-6) singled sharply to right field, bringing home Jack Mayfield. Mayfield doubled in his at-bat, extending his club-leading hit streak to seven games. After a Danny Worth (2-for-3) walk, A.J. Reed (3-for-5) singled to right and drove in Aplin. Later that inning, Jon Kemmer singled to center scoring Worth. After three innings, Fresno led 3-0.

The Sky Sox retook the lead in the top of the fifth with a five-run inning. It started with three singles, the third for an RBI by Garin Cecchini. After Will Middlebrooks was hit by a pitch, Michael Reed crushed a grand slam to left-center. It was the Sky Sox' third grand slam of the series and the fourth combined by both clubs. The slam gave the Sky Sox a 5-3 lead.

Fresno starter Cesar Valdez tossed six innings, allowing 11 hits, five runs (all earned), without a walk, hitting two batters and striking out three.

Fresno would tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh after Worth scored on a wild pitch, followed by a Max Stassi RBI single to right scoring A.J. Reed.

Colorado Springs retook the lead 6-5 in the top of the eighth when Yadiel Rivera singled, scoring Eric Young.

The Grizzlies tied the game 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth when Eury Perez (2-for-5) homered to left, his second of the season.

Still tied 6-6 after 10 complete innings, the game was officially ruled a tie once the travel curfew was surpassed. It was the first time in the 19-year history of the Grizzlies franchise in Fresno that a game ended in a tie. Due to Monday being the last meeting of the regular season between the two teams, the game is officially a tie and not suspended, and will not be resumed.

Fresno ended their eight-game homestand with a record of 5-2-1 and now travel to Albuquerque for a four-game series beginning Tuesday night. RHP Joe Musgrove (2-0, 2.00) is the scheduled starter for Fresno, facing Albuquerque LHP Harrison Musgrave (1-1, 5.54).
