Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES -The Iowa Cubs (23-26) swept the Albuquerque Isotopes (22-29) after taking an 11-0 shutout victory, Monday afternoon at Principal Park, thanks in part to a grand slam by Willson Contreras.

Jake Buchanan (4-3) got the ball for Iowa today in his eighth start as an I-Cub. Buchanan took the pitcher's duel into the sixth inning before exiting the game having given up no runs, four hits and striking out two to earn both his fourth win and quality start of the season.

Willson Contreras sparked the Iowa bats with a single to center field in the bottom of the sixth. Matt Murton followed with his second double of the game, but it was Daniel Vogelbach who broke the scoreless game with a single up the middle, pushing both Contreras and Murton across the plate. Albert Almora Jr., Kristopher Negrón, and Munenori Kawasaki added singles to the I-Cubs' hit total and Alcantara ripped the ball to deep right-center for an RBI double to put Iowa up, 5-0.

A pair of walks for Buchanan and Andreoli loaded the bases for Contreras, who broke the game wide open when he launched a bomb over the center field fence for his third career grand slam. The I-Cubs tallied an eight-hit inning to take a decisive 10-0 lead.

Contreras wasn't done as he ripped a solo shot over the right field fence in the bottom of the eighth for his fifth RBI of the game. He finished the night with four hits, extending his hit streak to nine games.

Jordan Lyles (1-2) was charged with the loss for Albuquerque, even after recording a season-high eight strikeouts. He was chased after 5.1 innings of work, having given up six runs on 11 hits.

The Iowa bats were electric in the final game of the series as six I-Cubs recorded a multi-hit game, including a three-hit contest by Almora Jr. All nine starters reached base in the bottom of the sixth as Iowa batted through the order.

Iowa hits the road to take on the Oklahoma City Dodgers tomorrow in the first of a four-game series. Tuesday's contest is set for 7:05 p.m. To catch the action, tune in to AM 940 or follow along on www.iowacubs.com.
