Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Pacific Coast League have announced that Sky Sox outfielder Shane Peterson has been named the PCL Player of the Week for the period from May 23-29.
In six games, Peterson led Triple-A in batting average (.524), slugging percentage (1.048) and OPS (1.631), while pacing the PCL in total bases (22), extra-base hits (7) and tying for the league lead in runs scored (9). Additionally, the 28-year-old finished second in the PCL in on-base percentage (.583) and stolen bases (3). He recorded the PCL's third 5-hit game of the season - and the second of his 960-game career - by reaching base six times (2 1B, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB) in the Sky Sox 17-4 rout of Fresno May 27. Earlier in the week, Peterson registered a 4-hit, 4-run game at Sacramento on May 24. Through 15 games this season, Peterson has hit .347 (17-for-49) with three home runs, seven RBI and a 1.122 OPS.
Peterson, who has spent parts of the last six seasons in the PCL (2011-14: Sacramento, 2015-16: Colorado Springs), was originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Long Beach St. This is Peterson's second PCL Player of the Week honor, having previously won in July 2014. Over his nine-year professional career, he has been named a four-time Mid-Season All-Star (2008-09, 2012, 2014), a 2014 MiLB.com Oakland organizational All-Star and Post-Season All-Star with Sacramento.
