DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (26-46) dropped the first game of a split doubleheader to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (38-33) 4-2, Saturday at Principal Park.

Consecutive hits by Keon Broxton, Tyrone Taylor and Jacob Nottingham led to the first run of the game in the first inning. Followed with a Jake Hager sacrifice fly, Colorado Springs took a 2-0 lead in the frame.

The Sky Sox built a 3-0 lead in the second on an RBI double off the bat of Nate Orf before Iowa could retaliate. The I-Cubs got their first run of the game in the third. Chesny Young led the charge with a leadoff single and got to third on a balk and a sacrifice bunt from Alec Mills. Mark Zagunis roped a single to the right side of the diamond to plate the run. Iowa later loaded the bases in the inning, but couldn't push across another run.

Colorado Springs added an insurance run in the sixth on a Jett Bandy RBI single to take a 4-1 edge. Iowa rallied in the seventh, but couldn't make up the difference. Young scored Iowa's second run on a Christian Donahue groundout. Donahue, 23, got the RBI in his first Triple-A at-bat.

Mills (3-7) was tagged with the loss, spinning 6.0 innings and allowing four runs on nine hits. He walked none and fanned four. Shae Simmons chipped in a scoreless relief inning to complete the 7.0-inning contest. Bubba Derby (4-3) spun 5.0 one-run innings and came away with the victory.

Iowa and Colorado Springs play the nightcap of the doubleheader tonight at 7:08. Promotions include Pre-Game Catch and a 2018 Team Photo Giveaway. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
