Salt Lake Bees News Release
The visiting Tacoma Rainiers scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as they defeated the Salt Lake Bees 17-1 on Friday night.
Tacoma pounded out 21 hits on the night as only Bees relievers Greg Mahle and Ryan Clark were able to get out of the game with 0's on their ledger. Luis Pena (1-1) struggled in his second Triple-A start allowing three runs on four hits and five walks in one and one-third innings. Infielder Sherman Johnson picked up the final two frames for the Bees pitching staff allowing four runs. The two pitching staffs combined to throw 400 pitches during the game, a new season-high for a Salt Lake game this season.
The Bees only run came in the fourth inning as Eric Young Jr. brought in Jabari Blash on a sacrifice fly. Blash finished 2-for-2 with a walk to raise his batting average to .333 on the season. Salt Lake scored a run for the 148th consecutive game and still have not been shutout since June 17, 2017, the longest active streak in baseball.
The Bees and Rainiers remain at Smith's Ballpark throughout the weekend. Saturday and Sunday the LEGO Let's Play Tour will be in town to bring LEGO games, building stations and sculptures to the Bees fun zone. Tickets and more information is available at www.slbees.com.
