Iowa Chops News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that the Edmonton Oilers have recalled defenseman Matt Greene from the Iowa Stars. The Stars have also released defenseman Christian Chartier from his Professional Tryout Contract (PTO) and loaned goalie Steve Silverthorn to the club's ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.

A native of Grand Ledge, Michigan, Greene has skated in 26 games for the Iowa Stars this season, notching two goals, five assists and 47 penalty minutes: 26(2/5/7)47. This is the second time the former University of North Dakota player has been recalled by Edmonton. He was originally recalled on Dec. 7th, but did not make his NHL debut during that recall.

The first-year professional was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers with their fourth choice, 44th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was a ‘plus 4' and had one assist in the Stars three-win weekend.

Also today, the Stars released blueliner Christian Chartier from his PTO and loaned goalie Steve Silverthorn to Idaho. The 6-0, 216 pound Chartier skated in three games for Iowa, recording two penalty minutes. Silverthorn was recalled early last week, but did not make his AHL debut while in Iowa. He will rejoin the Idaho Steelheads when they play in Phoenix on Wednesday and Thursday.

NEXT GAME: The Iowa Stars host Milwaukee on Friday, December 23rd at 7:05 PM at Wells Fargo Arena. The first 3,000 fans 'through the turnstiles' receive an Inaugural Season Holiday Ornament. Friday from 6-7 PM is also the new Budweiser Happy Hour in the Bud Zone at Wells Fargo Arena. Doors open for all games one-hour before face-off. Ticketing information can be obtained by calling 515-23-STARS or visiting iowastarshockey.com.
