Intimidators streak reaches five games

(Kannapolis, NC) – Brandon McCarthy matched his team-high striking out twelve Alleycats batters pacing the Intimidators to Tuesday night's 5-4 win over Charleston at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis, NC.

The visitors took the lead out of the gates with Robinson Diaz's two run homer in the first inning off McCarthy giving the Alleycats a 2-0 lead. The Intimidators starter clamped down on the ‘Cats after the first inning allowing just two base runners the remainder of his seven innings. After a double to Eric Arnold in the fifth, McCarthy retired the last eight batters he faced including six on strikeouts.

In the sixth inning, Kannapolis (31-33) finally got to Alleycats starter Justin James (5-4). With two outs, Ricardo Nanita and Leo Daigle singled giving Kannapolis runners at first and second base. Micah Schnurstein singled to left field scoring Nanita while an errant throw to third went in to left field allowing Daigle and Schnursten to score giving Kannapolis a one run lead, 3-2.

Kannapolis added to the lead with a pair of runs in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Robert Valido and a RBI sacrifice fly from the bat of Ricardo Nanita extending the lead 5-2.

The Alleycats (39-25) made it close in the eighth inning. Fabio Castro took over for McCarthy and surrendered a lead off double to Eric Arnold. After walking the next batter, pinch hitter Morrin Davis, Castro gave up a single to Willie Rivera driving in Arnold. Adam Larson relieved Castro and allowed a double to Robinson Diaz scoring Rivera and pulling Charlston within a run, 5-4.

Intimidators manager Chris Cron brought in his closer, Ehren Wassermann to start the ninth inning. Wassermann (14) shut down the side in order recording his fourth consecutive save.
