Hagerstown Suns News Release
Salisbury, MD- The Hagerstown Suns are trying to find themselves right now. They have lost two starting pitchers to arm trouble (Kelyn Acosta and Bryan Millikan), a seasoned infielder and catcher to organizational call up's, and just had their only All-Star, Nate Schierholtz promoted as well to High A San Jose. At the moment they find themselves in last place after a 5-0 loss to the Delmarva Shorebirds (32-33).
The Suns (27-35) were held in check all game by Delmarva starter, RHP James Johnson who went eight spectacular shut out innings. Johnson (3-5) gave up only two hits while striking out seven.
The Suns' starter, Jesse Floyd (1-5), had a rough start and his team never recovered. Floyd gave up four runs in the first two innings, but only two were earned. Floyd had been plauged by errors in the field behind him, leading to unearned runs while he's pitched, as well as a lack of run support. Tuesday unfortuneatly follow suit with Floyd even though he finished his five innings by retiring 10 of 11.
Jesse Schmidt had two of the Suns three hits, but the Suns failed to have more than one base runner in any inning until the ninth.
Game two is Wednesday night at 7:05pm and has RHP Brian Wilson dueling Delmarva's RHP Christopher Britton.
