Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

Lakewood, NJ– Carlos Rodriguez slammed a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to carry the BlueClaws to a 9-8 comeback win over Lake County Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park. The Captains five-game win streak was brought to a halt, while the BlueClaws ended their five-game slide and improved to 29-33. The BlueClaws longest game of the season was played in three hours and 24 minutes, one minute longer than the game played on Opening Day at Kannapolis.

Javon Moran singled with two outs in the eighth and stole second base before Rodriguez drove a 1-1 offering from Bo Ashabraner over the wall in right field for his fifth home run of the year. Rodriguez finished the night with two hits and four runs batted in, matching a season-high set against Hagerstown on May 28. Lake County took an 8-7 lead in the top of the eighth against Clemente Doble after Josh Noviskey started the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ricardo Rojas and scored on a double by Brad Snyder.

Doble yielded a leadoff single to Kevin Kouzmanoff and a one-out walk to Ryan Mulhern in the ninth before retiring Micah Schilling on a fly ball and striking out pinch-hitter Bill Peavey to end the game and record his second win since joining the team. The right-hander has started twice and pitched in relief three times and has been involved in the decision in four of his appearances.

The Captains scored four runs with two outs in the sixth to tie the game at seven. Cory Schultz took over for starter Nate Cabrera with the bases loaded and two outs and hit Snyder, the first hitter he faced, to force in a run to make it 7-4 BlueClaws. Chris De La Cruz followed with a two-run single and Ryan Goleski singled to drive in Snyder with the tying run. Cabrera was charged with six runs on eight hits in his third straight start against Lake County. The right-hander fanned six and walked three and left without a decision for the sixth time in nine starts.

Moran, who picked up three hits and drew a walk in five at-bats, scored four times to match a franchise record for runs scored in a game set earlier in the year by Jake Blalock on May 20 and Michael Bourn on May 22. Bryan Hansen belted a two-run home run in the first inning off of Captains starter Aaron Laffey to give the home team a 3-1 lead. It was his seventh of the season, first at home and first off a left-handed pitcher.

The BlueClaws continue their three-game set with Lake County on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Scott Mathieson will get the starting assignment against Captains right-hander Ed Mujica. All BlueClaws games, home and away, can be heard on 1160 WOBM AM and www.sportsjuice.com. Coverage of Wednesday's game will begin at 6:50 p.m.
