
Intimidators overtake Alleycats

(Charleston, WV) â Kannapolis won their first game in seven tries against the Alleycats combing solid pitching and timely hitting overtaking Charleston 6-3 Friday night at Watt Powell Park in Charleston, WV.
The Intimidators (6-3) went to work early jumping out to a 2-0 lead on Leo Daigle's two run homer over the center field wall off Shaun Marcum (7-3) in the first inning.
Antoin Gray added to the Intimidators lead with a solo home run of Marcum in the third inning. Kannapolis scored four runs total off the Alleycats starter who held the Intimidators to three runs in two previous starts.
Charleston responded with three runs in the fourth off starter Daniel Haigwood (5-3). David Smith drove in two runs with a triple and scored on a single by Patrick tying the game at 3-3.
Cory Haggerty led off the fifth inning with the first of his two walks in the game. Gustavo Molina sacrificed moving Haggerty to second before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Antoin Gray singled in ahaggerty scoring the eventual game winning run. Kannapolis added two insurance runs in the seventh.
Pitching was a strong suit for Kannapolis. Haigwood held the Alleycats (38-22) to three runs in five innings striking out seven. Fernando Hernandez retired six of seven batters faced with four strikeouts. Orionny Lopez allowed a lead off base hit to Robinson Diaz before shutting down the next three batters to get out of the inning.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Ehren Wassermann struck out the side in order of three consecutive strikeouts closing out the win for Kannapolis. The Intimidators bullpen allowed just two base runners while striking out 8 in the final four innings.
