South Atlantic League Announces 45th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Teams

June 11, 2004 - South Atlantic League (SAL1) News Release


Kings Mountain, NC – John H. Moss, President of the South Atlantic League announced the teams for the 45th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game to be played on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston, SC. "The teams representing the Northern and Southern Divisions in the 2004 South Atlantic League All-Star Game are full of great, young talent some of whom are destined to become future Major League Players and who will surely provide for a very exciting game in Charleston," Moss said.

The Southern Division club will serve as the host team and will be managed by Steve Livesey, who has led the host club, Charleston RiverDogs to its current standing atop the South Atlantic League Southern Division. Rocket Wheeler, Field Manager of the Rome Braves who lead Rome to the 2003 South Atlantic League Championship will provide assistance in his role as Coach and Blaine Beatty of the Capital City Bombers will be the team's Pitching Coach. Jimmy Southard of the Charleston RiverDogs will be the Southern Division Trainer.

Charleston, SC placed the most players on either squad with seven representing the Southern Division Team including Brian Bulger, Chad Orvella, Scott Vandermeer, Colt Simmons, Elliot Johnson, Wes Bankston and Delmon Young. Capital City placed five players on the team including Yusmeiro Petit, Greg Ramirez, Ian Bladergroen, Wilson Batista and Ryan Harvey. The Rome Braves and the Columbus Catfish each had 4 representatives. The Southern Division team consists of 25 players total with a representative from each South Atlantic League Southern Division team.

The Northern Division club will be led by Ken Joyce, the Field Manager of the Charleston Alley Cats who has guided his club to their current lead in the South Atlantic League Northern Division First Half Title chase. Dave Clark, Field Manager for the Hickory Crawdads will serve as a coach for the Northern Division and Tom Bradley, also of the Charleston Alley Cats, will be the club's pitching coach. Andrew Muccino of the Charleston Alley Cats will be the Northern Division Trainer.

Charleston, WV placed the most players on the South Atlantic League Northern Division All-Star Roster with six players including Shaun Marcum, Thomas Mastny, Justin James, Brian Reed, Robinson Diaz and Ryan Roberts. The Hickory Crawdads placed 5 players including Thomas Gorzelanny, Mike McCuistion, Jon Benick, Javier Guzman and Adam Boeve. The Lake County Captains placed 4 members on the club, followed by the Delmarva Shorebirds and Lexington Legends with 3 representatives each. The Northern Division team consists of 25 players total with a representative from each South Atlantic League Northern Division team.
