Rome, GA - John H. Moss, President of the South Atlantic League has announced the teams for the 45th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game to be played on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston, SC. "The teams representing the Northern and Southern Divisions in the 2004 South Atlantic League All-Star Game are full of great, young talent some of whom are destined to become future Major League Players and who will surely provide for a very exciting game in Charleston," Moss said. Steve Livesey of the Charleston, SC Riverdogs will manage the Southern Division team while Charleston, WV manager, Ken Joyce will handle duties for the Northern squad.

Representing the Rome Braves will be left-handed pitchers Chuck James and Jacob Stevens along with catcher Miguel Bernard and outfielder Matt Esquivel. Rome manager Rocket Wheeler, who guided the Braves to the 2003 South Atlantic League Championship, has been selected as a coach for the team. James (7-1, 1.92) and Stevens (4-1, 1.98) have had an exceptional first half and both are among league leaders in pitching. Bernard is touted as one of the best defensive catchers in the league and is hitting .253 with 19 RBI while Esquivel is having a solid first half hitting .309 with 30 runs batted in.

"It is a testament to our player development process to continue to provide players of all-star caliber. Rome will be well represented," states Rome General Manager Michael Dunn.

Rome returns to State Mutual Stadium Saturday night at seven to take on the Savannah Sand Gnats. It begins a very important nine-game home stand that will determine the Southern Division's first-half winner. Call 706-378-5144 for ticket information.
