July 20, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
High Desert Mavericks News Release

The Inland Empire 66ers continued to have their way with Mavericks pitching in the High Desert, scoring 16 runs over a four-inning stretch and winning 17-11 Monday night.

The 66ers did most of their damage with two outs, scoring 14 times with two down. After getting down 1-0 in the first, the 66ers put up five runs with two outs in the second to take the lead for good.

Leading 5-2, the 66ers scored four more times after they had none on with two outs in the third. A Pedro Baez two-run homer in the fourth put the 66ers up 9-2.

Inland Empire then rallied for five more two-out runs in the fifth to take a commanding 16-2 lead.

The 66ers finished with 20 hits, including four homers and eight doubles to collect a season-high 12 extra-base hits. Each 66ers starter had at least one extra-base hit.

Four players had at least three hits and five others drove in at least two runs. In addition to Baez, Travis Denker, Ramon Jean, and Scott Van Slyke each homered.

Jean was the star of the night, despite being taken out of the game in the sixth inning. He finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and a homer, totaling five RBI's.

The Mavs put up their share of offense as well, outscoring the 66ers 9-1 over the final few innings. Rich Poythress had a monster night, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBI's.

Edilio Colina also notched four hits, and Kyle Seager went 3-for-5 to extend his current hit streak to 26 games. Johermyn Chavez added his team-leading 23rd home run of the year with a solo shot in the fifth.

66ers pitcher Nate Eovaldi wasn't quite as sharp as when tossed a shutout the last time he faced the Mavs, but he earned the win again on Monday. Eovaldi (3-5) allowed three runs and 10 hits over five innings.

The Mavs were forced to piece nine innings together from the bullpen, as scheduled starter Jon Hesketh fell ill. Cheyne Hann (1-5) made the spot start, allowing seven runs over 2.2 innings and took the loss.

After dropping four of six on the home stand, the Mavs begin a six- game road trip Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. in Modesto. Live coverage will start at 6:45 p.m. on the High Desert's TALK 960 and www.talk960.com.
