High Desert Mavericks News Release
ADELANTO, Calif. - The Arizona Fall League announced rosters for the upcoming season and two current Mavericks, Catcher Jose Trevino and Pitching Coach Oscar Marin, made the Surprise Saguaros roster. Other Mavericks' alumni, pitchers John Fasola, Joe Filomeno and Reed Garrett as well as catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa, will also be joining Trevino and Marin on the Saguaros.
Arizona Fall League Director Steve Cobb announced, "For the 25th consecutive year, professional baseball again will be played in Arizona in October and November! As always, the 30 major-league organizations have assigned an impressive array of top prospects to the Arizona Fall League. Approximately 60 percent of them will reach the major leagues. Fans will enjoy watching the game's top young prospects competing against each other over our six-week silver anniversary season."
The Arizona Fall League is a six-team league wit players from all 30 Major League clubs. Each team includes representatives from five Major League organizations. The league runs from Oct. 11 to November 19. Games will be played Monday through Saturday at the various Spring Training facilities in Arizona.
Last fall, former Mavericks Lewis Brinson, Adam Parks and Ryne Slack played for the Saguaros. This year, four of MLB.com's Top 100 prospects will be joining current and former Mavericks on the squad: Yoah Moncada (#1, Red Sox), Austin Meadows (#9, Pirates), Nick Gordon (#52, Twins), and Michael Kopech (#74, Red Sox).
Surprise Stadium, home of Rangers Spring Training games, returns in 2016 as an AFL venue and home to the Surprise Saguaros after it was closed for renovations last year.
The AFL stars will again come together for the 11th Fall Stars Game on Nov. 5 at Surprise Stadium. The season will culminate with its annual championship game on Nov. 19 at Scottsdale Stadium.
