INF Gleyber Torres to Rehab in Somerset on Sunday

Bridgewater, New Jersey - The New York Yankees have announced that INF Gleyber Torres will commence a rehab assignment with the Double-A Somerset Patriots. He is currently scheduled to be activated and start Sunday's game against the Akron RubberDucks at TD Bank Ballpark.

Torres was placed on the 10-day injured list on August 9th with a sprained thumb. Prior to the injury, he was hitting .253 with 35 runs, 91 hits, 17 doubles, six home runs and 42 RBI in 99 games.

New York acquired the Venezuelan native in a trade with the Chicago Cubs for LHP Aroldis Chapman on July 25, 2016. He made his MLB debut on April 22, 2018 against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Torres is a two-time All-Star (2018-2019) that carries an MLB career .267 average, 202 runs, 393 hits, 67 doubles, 71 home runs and 225 RBI over 408 games all with the Yankees.

He marks the eleventh Major League rehab assignment in Somerset this year, joining: LHP Zack Britton, INF Luke Voit, LHP Wandy Peralta, RHP Luis Severino, RHP Clarke Schmidt, INF Chris Gittens, RHP Corey Kluber, OF Clint Frazier, C Gary Sanchez, and INF Gio Urshela.
