Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indians fans will have the opportunity to help Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) students get ready for the 2007-08 school year by donating supplies at Friday night's game against Durham. Collection bins will be placed at all entry points to Victory Field. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and first pitch is slated for 7 p.m.

Fans who contribute to the 10th-annual "Backpack Attack" will be given the chance to win roundtrip airfare on Southwest Airlines, future Indians tickets and several other prizes. One raffle ticket will be handed out for each school supply donated.

Fans are encouraged to donate packages of erasers (pink), ink pens (blue or black), pencils (No. 2), color pencils (12 count), crayons (24 count), markers (8 count) and glue sticks in addition to calculators, scissors (safety tip), rulers (12 inch), art boxes, spiral notebooks, backpacks, alarm clocks, pocket folders, pencil sharpeners and/or notebook paper.

The "Backpack Attack" program is supported by IUPUI, UPS, IPS, Bridges to Success, the YMCA, Children's Museum and United Way of Central Indiana.

For thousands of children in Indianapolis, the first day of school will be long on excitement but short on supplies. Many children live in poverty and start school without the basic tools that are essential to their success. That's why the organizations above have joined forces for this worthwhile cause.

The Indians are home through Monday, July 23. Tickets are available by going online at www.IndyIndians.com, visiting the Victory Field Box Office at 501 W. Maryland Street or calling Ticketmaster at 317-239-5151.
