
Yankees Sign Slugger Durazo

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees have added a veteran bat for the stretch drive signing slugger Erubiel Durazo as a free agent.
Durazo was playing with the Mexican League's Monterrey Sultans. In 45 games for Monterrey this season, he hit .354 with nine homers and 42 RBIs.
He played in the big leagues from 1999-2005 with Arizona (1999-2002) and Oakland (2003-2005). In 2001 he won a World Series ring with Arizona when they beat the Yankees. In 624 MLB games he hit .281 with 94 HR and 330 RBI. Durazo had his best season in 2004 with Oakland when he hit .321 with 22 HR and 88 RBI.
In 2006, he played for three different Triple-A teams and three different organizations. In 22 games for Oklahoma (Texas) he hit .299 with 2 HR and 12 RBI, 19 games for Columbus (Yankees) he hit .290 with 2 HR and 10 RBI and 17 games for Rochester (Twins) he hit .264 with 1 HR and 3 RBI.
To make room for the left-handed Durazo, SWB has optioned OF Jamal Strong to Trenton. Strong batted .286 and scored 23 runs in 40 games for the Yankees.
