Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -After a difficult series in Everett that saw Spokane drop four of five to the Aquasox, the bruised and battered Indians returned to Avista Stadium in desperate need of a win-they found three of them.

Spokane shortstop Gabriel Roa drilled a two-out single with the bases loaded in the second inning, keying a five-run Indians rally as Spokane swept the three game series from Boise with a 6-2 victory in front of 3,463 fans at Avista Stadium for the Businesspersons Special presented by Integra Telecom, 103.9 BOB FM, 790 KJRB, and The Inlander.

Spokane loaded the bases with one out in the second, but looked in danger of being kept off the board after Saquan Johnson struck out looking for the second out of the inning. Christopher Garia followed with an infield single, scoring Barrett Serrato and putting the Indians first run on the board. The damage wasn't done there.

Roa drilled a single up the middle on a fastball from Hawks starter Tayler Scott (0-1) scoring Patrick Cantwell and Joe Maloney. A throwing error from Boise compounded the damage, as both Garia and Roa were able to score, giving the Indians an early 5-0 advantage.

The lead was more than enough for Spokane starter Jose Valdespina (1-1), who held the Hawks to just two runs over five innings. New arrival Jose Monegro struck out four in three scoreless frames and Carlos Melo closed out the game in the ninth.

The Indians piled up 10 hits in the win, with a Preston Beck lighting up the IHOP sign to the delight of the crowd, as he notched a season-high four base knocks.

The win moved Spokane to 3-0 in the NWL East and 5-8 overall.
