Boise Hawks News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - Taking advantage of a pair of second inning errors to plate five runs, the Spokane Indians completed a three-game sweep of the Boise Hawks, winning this afternoon, 6-2, at Avista Stadium.

A one-out error by Jeimer Candelario on a ground ball by Patrick Cantwell put runners at first and second for the Indians in the second, with Joe Maloney walking to load the bases. With two outs, Chris Garia beat out an infield single to score Barrett Serrato to give Spokane a 1-0 lead. Gabriel Roa followed with a two-run single to center, but Garia and Roa also scored on the play, when catcher Lance Rymel's throw to third to try and get Garia ended up in the left field corner, giving Spokane the 5-0 lead.

The Hawks got on the board in the fifth, as Rymel doubled high off the wall in left to plate Shawon Dunston Jr., with Marco Hernandez following with an RBI double to make it 5-2. However, the Indians bullpen locked things down for a third-straight night, as Jose Monegro retired all nine men he faced, including four strikeouts, and Hector Melo got the final three outs to close the win.

Jose Valdespina picked up his first win, allowing two runs on five hits, with three strikeouts. Preston Beck went 4-for-4 for the Indians, who pounded out 10 hits in the victory, extended a win streak to four.

Hernandez and Dunston each had two hits in the loss for the Hawks, who fell to 1-7 on the road this season.

The two teams head to the Treasure Valley tomorrow to open a three-game series at Memorial Stadium. Ian Dickson gets the start for the Hawks, opposite David Perez, at 7:15 p.m.
