Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -If winning is contagious, than the Spokane Indians are glad to have catcher Patrick Cantwell aboard. The third-round pick out of Stony Brook University is no stranger to success, having led the Seawolves to their first ever College World Series appearance in 2012, a whirlwind run that included an upset of highly-favored Louisiana State University in the Super Regionals.

Cantwell brought some of that same magic to Avista Stadium on Tuesday night, as he delivered a go-ahead two run hit in the Indians 3-1 victory over Boise in front of 2,912 fans for Fields of Green Night presented by Pacific Golf & Turf, Hits 96.1, 1280 KPTQ, and Out There Monthly.

After being hit by a pitch in his first professional at-bat, Cantwell came to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, two outs, and the Indians trailing 1-0. It didn't take long for the native of New York to endear himself to the Avista Stadium faithful. On a hanging curveball from Hawks starter James Pugliese (0-2), Cantwell drilled a double into leftfield, scoring Gabriel Roa and Ryan Rua, and giving Spokane a lead it would not relinquish.

Cantwell's double backed a strong performance from starter John Kukuruda (1-1) who had his best outing of the season, allowing just one unearned run in five innings while striking out four.

The Indians bullpen continued its recent string of dominance with four combined scoreless frames from Cody Kendall and Alec Asher, who picked his first save of the season in the win.

The victory was Spokane's third consecutive, pulling the Indians into a tie for second place with Boise in the Northwest League Eastern Division.

Tomorrow is the series finale against Boise and is a special 3:30 p.m. afternoon start time for the Businesspersons Special presented by Integra Telecom, 103.9 BOB FM, 790 KJRB, and The Inlander. Tell the boss you won't be back after lunch because you've got an afternoon meeting with the Boys of Summer!
