June 27, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - A four-run top of the 9th inning had the Vancouver Canadians a base hit away from erasing a five-run deficit, but Everett closer RHP Oliver Garcia managed to strike out LF Matt Newman to stop a late rally in its tracks giving the Aquasox a 6-5 win on Tuesday night in Washington State.
Vancouver opened the scoring in the top of the 1st inning when 1B Balbino Fuenmayor drove home RF Nick Baligod for his 16th RBI of the season, giving the Canadians a 1-0 lead.
From there, the Aquasox would score six straight runs including a three-run bottom of the 4th inning which was capped off by a two-run double from C Carlton Tanabe that helped Everett build a 6-1 stranglehold on the Canadians.
Vancouver rallied in the top of the 9th inning for a quartet of runs which included a two-run single from 1B Balbino Fuenmayor that cut the lead to 6-5, but with the tying run on at first base, Aquasox RHP Oliver Garcia managed to strike out LF Matt Newman to snuff out offensive surge and secure the three game series victory for Everett.
