May 3, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Four relievers allowed just two runs over eight innings and Indianapolis took advantage of two 10th-inning wild pitches to score a 9-7 victory over Pawtucket Thursday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.
The Indians improve to 16-9 overall and 10-3 on the road with their fourth consecutive win, while the Red Sox fall to 9-15 overall and 2-12 at home with their sixth straight setback.
Indianapolis RHP Jesse Chavez (4.0 IP, 1 H, 2 SO), RHP Kevin Gryboski (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 SO), RHP Franquelis Osoria (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER) and RHP Brian Rogers (1.0 IP) came to the rescue of LHP Michael Tejera (2.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO), who was forced into a starting role with less than 24 hours notice.
Tejera was activated for the first time this season when Thursday's starting pitcher, RHP Marty McLeary, was promoted to Pittsburgh late Wednesday night. Osoria was charged with a blown save, but ended up winning his first decision of 2007. Rogers needed just nine pitches in the 10th to notch his first save of the campaign.
The teams combined for nine runs, 10 hits and two errors in a wild second inning. Indianapolis managed a four spot in the top of the inning before Pawtucket pushed across five runs in the home half.
Tribe SS Brian Bixler, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games by going 1-for-5 with one run and one RBI, evened the affair in the sixth with an RBI double to left center after RF Luis Matos drew a lead-off walk.
Indianapolis pulled ahead in the ninth when 1B Yurendell de Caster clobbered his third roundtripper of the year -- a two-run shot to left -- but 1B Jeff Bailey answered the call by smashing a two-run single to center with two outs in Pawtucket's last scheduled at-bat.
The Indians got things rolling right away in the 10th. 3B Russ Johnson roped a single to right center and Matos tagged a double to left before both runners eventually crossed the dish on wild pitches.
De Caster and Bailey collected two base knocks and four RBI apiece to lead their respective teams, while Matos finished 3-for-4 with one walk and a pair of runs.
Tribe 2B Luis Ordaz extended his hitting streak to a season-best nine contests by going 2-for-5 with one run, while CF Rajai Davis chipped in with a 2-for-5 performance and one RBI.
Pawtucket RHP Manny Delcarmen (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 SO) suffered the loss, falling to 1-1.
Indianapolis wraps up its eight-game road trip on Friday when the clubs return to McCoy Stadium at 7:05 p.m. Indians LHP Sean Burnett is scheduled to face Red Sox LHP Kason Gabbard.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
