LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- After going down by the score of 4-3 in the conclusion of Monday night's suspended contest, the Indianapolis Indians pounded out six runs on nine hits over seven innings and went on to shut out the Gwinnett Braves 6-0 in the regularly scheduled contest on Tuesday evening at Coolray Field.

With both a win and a loss on the evening, Indianapolis' record moves to 27-25 on the season, while Gwinnett's record now sits at 23-28 after the two-game split. The two decisions also move the Tribe's record to 3-3 against the Braves this season after the two squads split a four-game series at Victory Field just over a week ago.

After dropping the conclusion of suspended contest to the Braves, the Indians bounced back in a big way as they pounded out six runs on nine hits, while shutting out the Gwinnett offense to earn the seven-inning victory by the score of 6-0 in Tuesday's regularly scheduled match-up.

Indianapolis got things rolling in the first by way of back-to-back-to-back clutch two-out singles by 1B Brian Myrow, 3B Pedro Alvarez and C Luke Carlin with Carlin's base knock eventually plating Myrow to give the Tribe the early 1-0 lead.

Then, following what seems to have become an every night occurrence as of late, a long delay (one hour and 36 minute) due to weather, the Indianapolis offense poured on the runs scoring twice in the fourth, once in the fifth and twice more in the sixth.

Alvarez began the Tribe's post-delay rally when he led off the fourth with a base on balls, moved to third on a double by CF Brandon Moss and along with Moss came around to score on hard hit triple off the bat of 2B Brian Friday. CF Jose Tabata then added a single tally for the Indians in the fifth, when he led off the frame with his third home run of the season.

Finally, Friday capped the evening's scoring in the sixth, when he first brought home Carlin with a double to right, before crossing the plate himself on an RBI groundout by pinch hitter Jonathan Van Every.

While the Tribe's offense broke out with six runs over seven innings, three Tribe hurlers combined to hold the Braves to just six singles over a seven-inning shutout effort. Indians' starter Hayden Penn (3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO) allowed three hits and struck out three over three innings of work, before relievers Vinnie Chulk (2.0 IP, 1 H) and Corey Hamman (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) completed the blanking with four innings of scoreless relief.

Chulk earned the victory to improve to 1-0 on the season, while lowering his ERA over his last 11 outings to 0.61 (1 ER in 14.2 IP) during which time he has also posted a 14 to 2 strikeout to walk ratio. Braves' starter Jo-Jo Reyes (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) was pinned with the loss to drop to 0-2 on the season despite allowing just one run on three hits over three innings of work.

The suspended contest which the two squads completed on Tuesday, began on Monday evening with the Braves jumping out to an early lead by way of the long ball as 1B Barbaro Canizares gave Gwinnett the lead with a two-run bomb in the first and RF Alex Romero extended the advantage with a solo shot to lead-off the second. The homer for Canizares was his third on the season and plated 2B Joe Thurston, who drew a two-out walk before trotting home on the two-run shot, while Romero's solo roundtripper was his first on the season.

Sandwiched between Canizares' and Romero's long balls was a home run off the bat of Tribe LF Brandon Moss, who belted a solo shot of his own to right-center field with one out in the top of the second. The homer for Moss was his fifth on the season and was the last run scored before rain caused the game to be suspended until the following day.

The Braves quickly extended their lead after the suspended contest got back underway on Tuesday as CF Jordan Schafer led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to center, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by 3B Wes Timmons and came around to score on a base hit by Thurston. The single tally would turn out to be the winning run as the Tribe plated two runs in the top of the sixth to pull the score with-in one at 4-3, but were unable to draw any closer.

Newly reacquired CF Jonathan Van Every led off the Indian's sixth with a walk, before coming around to score on a clutch two-out double off the bat of 3B Pedro Alvarez. C Erik Kratz then plated Alvarez with a base hit to left to bring the Tribe as close they would get at 4-3 as the Braves bullpen went on to shut down the Tribe over the final three frames to secure the victory.

Gwinnett reliever Mariano Gomez (3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO) earned the victory to improve to 2-2 on the season despite allowing two runs following the suspension of the contest, while closer Craig Kimbrel (2.0 IP, 3 SO) followed Gomez with two perfect innings of relief to earn his seventh save of the season. Braves starter Chris Resop (4.0 IP, 3 H , 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB ,4 SO) did not figure in the final decision despite striking out four and allowing just one run over four innings, while Indians' starter Daniel McCutchen (3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 0 SO) was saddled with the loss to drop to 2-3 on the season after allowing three runs on three hits and four walks over three innings of work.

Offensive stars for the Tribe over the two contests, included 3B Pedro Alvarez (3-for-6, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB), who scored twice and reached base five times, 2B Brian Friday, who bounced back from an 0-for-3 showing in the first game to go 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI in the second contest and OF Brandon Moss, who belted a solo shot in the first game before doubling and scoring in game number two.

Gwinnett was led offensively over the two contests by OF Alex Romero (3-for-6, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI), who belted a solo shot in the first contest before turning in the Braves only multi-hit effort in game two, 1B Barbaro Canizares (2-for-7, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI), who launched a two-run homer in game one and added a base hit in game two and 2B Joe Thurston, who collected three base knocks and drove in the game-winning run in game number one.

The two teams continue their four game series on Wednesday June 2 at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jeremy Powell is expected to get the call for Indianapolis, while RHP Todd Redmond is the probable starter for Gwinnett.

The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley on the call. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
