Buffalo, N.Y. - In the second game of a four game set, the Buffalo Bisons beat the Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, by a score of 4-1. Pat Misch pitched seven innings of one run baseball for the Bisons and was aided by home runs from Mike Hessman and Mike Jacobs.

Buffalo (30-22) scored three runs in the first inning against Chiefs starter Shairon Martis (2-4). Ruben Tejada worked a one out single and he was followed by Daniel Murphy, who also singled. The International League's home run leader Mike Hessman came up next and grounded into a fielders choice that allowed Tejada to score. Just one batter later, Mike Jacobs hit his sixth home run of the year to right field to make it 3-1 Bisons after one.

Syracuse (30-21) scored its lone run of the evening in the sixth inning with newcomer Boomer Whiting on the base paths. Whiting singled with one down and stole second base. On the same pitch, he advanced to third on a wild pitch by Misch. Josh Whitesell singled in Whiting for his team-leading 34th RBI of the year.

The Bisons tacked on their fourth and final run of the night in the eighth when Hessman hit his 18th home run of the year off of Chiefs reliever Victor Garate. That pushed the lead to 4-1, which would be the final. It was the first home run Garate had allowed since his Triple-A debut on May 19th against Rochester.

Collin Balester also pitched in relief for the Chiefs tossing one inning and striking out one while facing just three batters.

Misch (5-1) struck out five batters in his tenth outing of the season. He did not walk a batter and allowed five hits. Bobby Parnell threw two innings behind him and faced only six batters, striking out three of them. Parnell was credited with his third save of the season.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs and Bisons will play game three of the series at Coca-Cola Field. Scheduled pitchers are Erik Arnesen (0-1, 3.60) for Syracuse and Bobby Livingston (2-5, 4.44) for Buffalo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
