Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Michael Reed clubbed two doubles and scored two runs as four Gwinnett pitchers combined to blank the Indians 3-0 on Thursday night at Victory Field. Pablo Reyes had two of Indy's five hits as the Tribe suffered their fifth straight loss.
Gwinnett (24-27) earned the sweep over Indianapolis (25-26) behind Reed's bat. The Stripers center fielder doubled to start the second and raced home on a sacrifice fly by Rob Brantly.
Two innings later, his second double of the game followed a Carlos Franco infield single to make it 2-0. Rio Ruiz then pushed the visitors' lead to three with a single to center.
Indians hurler Alex McRae (L, 1-5) settled down after the fourth, recording a pair of strikeouts in the fifth and another in the seventh before handing over to the bullpen. He allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks with six punchouts in 6.1 innings pitched.
Stripers righty Luke Jackson fired four scoreless innings in a spot start and watched Lucas Sims, Rex Brothers (W, 2-1) and Jason Hursh (S, 1) complete Indianapolis' fourth shutout loss of 2018.
Indy's five straight losses marks the longest losing streak for the Tribe since April 8-12, 2017.
The Indians went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Gwinnett didn't fare much better, going 1-for-12 in those same situations.
The Indians continue their six-game homestand as the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, come to Circle City. First pitch on Friday, June 1 is set for 7:15 p.m. ET. Indy will send right-hander J.T. Brubaker (2-1, 3.32) to the bump, opposite righty Chance Adams (1-2, 5.93).
