Pigs Drop Rubber Match to Knights
May 31, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs fell in their rubber game with the Charlotte Knights on Thursday at Coca-Cola Park 6-2. It was the first series lost by the IronPigs since they were swept in Scranton two weeks ago. Even with the loss, the IronPigs still maintain a half-game lead atop the International League North Division.
Just as they did last night, the Pigs struck first. In the fourth inning against Jordan Stephens, Danny Ortiz smacked a solo home run over the right field wall for his eighth of the season. Trevor Plouffe followed suit with his fourth homer of the season to give the Pigs a 2-0 lead. That was the fourth pair of back-to-back home runs for Lehigh Valley in 2018.
The Knights responded a half inning later in the fifth when Juan Perez slugged a solo home run off Drew Anderson. Charlotte added an extra pair of two-out runners in the inning, but Anderson was able to escape with the lead intact. The pitching staff faltered in the sixth when the Knights brought ten to the plate to score four runs against not only Anderson, but eventually Brandon Leibrandt and Hoby Milner, as well. Charlotte closed the scoring in the eighth inning off of Tom Windle on a single from Jacob May.
Overall, Dean Anna collected a pair of singles, while Danny Ortiz went 2-for-3 with a single and his home run.
The Pigs will continue their six-game homestand Friday when they begin a three-game series with the Toledo Mud Hens. Enyel De Los Santos will start for Lehigh Valley with the first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m. Stick around after the game for One-Hit Wonder Friday Night Fireworks
