
Devices Fall to Mud Hens 5-3 on Salute to Brannock Device(R) Night

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Devices fell to the Toledo Mud Hens, 5-3, Thursday night on Salute to Brannock Device® Night at NBT Bank Stadium. The Devices scored three runs in the sixth inning, but couldn't overcome the Mud Hens who took two of three from Syracuse in the series.
Toledo (33-19) struck in the top of the first inning. Mike Gerber led off with a single off Austin Voth and stole second base. After a Mikie Mahtook strikeout, Christin Stewart walked to put runners on first and second base. Two batters later, Jim Aducci singled home Gerber to give the Mud Hens a 1-0 lead. Jason Krizan followed with base hit that brought home Stewart from second for a 2-0 Toledo advantage.
The Mud Hens added to their lead in the third. With two outs, Aducci homered over the wall in right-center-field to put the Mud Hens up 3-0.
Toledo scored again in the fourth. Edwin Espinal worked a walk and Jarrod Saltalamacchia singled, placing runners on first and second with no outs. Harold Castro followed with a bunt single, and then everybody advanced a base, including Espinal to home plate on a throwing error by Syracuse catcher Tuffy Gosewisch as the Mud Hens took a 4-0 lead.
Syracuse (25-26) started to mount its comeback in the sixth. Irving Falu doubled off Caleb Thielbar and Jose Marmolejos hit his third home run of the season to trim the lead to 4-2. Then after Moises Sierra doubled and moved to third on a fly out, Yadiel Hernandez hit an RBI single to bring the Devices within one.
But Toledo would add an insurance run in the seventh on Dawel Lugo's one-out home run off Josh Edgin for a 5-3 lead.
The Chiefs return to NBT Bank Stadium Friday night at 7:05 p.m. to open a three-game series against the Columbus Clippers. LHP Tommy Milone is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite RHP Myles Jaye for Columbus.
