Indianapolis, IN - The Indianapolis Indians beat the Richmond Braves 11-5 Friday at Victory Field. The Indians scored seven runs in the eighth to take the first of a four game series
The Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI doubles by Martin Prado and Bill McCarthy. Indianapolis responded with a run in the bottom half on a home run by Ryan Doumit. The Indians tied the game in the second on an RBI single by Luis Matos. The Braves regained the lead in the fifth on a Prado sacrifice fly. The Indians grabbed a 4-3 lead in the home half on RBI singles by Jose Hernandez and Yurendell DeCaster. Richmond tied the game at four in the seventh on an RBI double by Willie Harris. The Indians blew the game open in the eighth. Chris Aguila slapped a two run single. Nyjer Morgan knocked in a run with a single. Doumit chased a run home with a single. A throwing error allowed the fifth run of the inning. Hernandez produced a run with a sacrifice fly, and Rajai Davis capped the seven run outburst with a run-scoring triple to make it 11-4. The Braves added a run in the ninth on an RBI single by Yunel Escobar.
Kevin Gryboski was the winning pitcher. Rich Scalamandre was charged with all seven runs in the Indians eighth and took the loss. Matos had three hits for the Indians. Harris had his second straight three hit game for the Braves.
The Braves and Indians meet again Saturday at Victory Field at 7 PM. Kevin Barry will pitch for the Braves against John Van Benschoten.
