
Independence Claims Queen City Cup in Loss

Cincinnati (OH) - The Charlotte Independence claimed the 2018 Queen City Cup with a 4-3 aggregate score of the two-game season-series. On May 12th, the Independence defeated FC Cincinnati 4-1 at the Sportsplex at Matthews. However, Cincinnati topped the Independence 2-0 in a nationally televised USL Game of the Week on Wednesday night.
The home side struck early when Cincinnati captain Dekel Keinan finished a deflected ball on a corner kick. In the 20th minute, Cincinnati doubled their lead when defender Forrest Lasso headed in off a corner kick. The two sides would go without a goal in the second half.
The Independence will next play on Saturday, July 21st when they continue their road trip to USL Eastern Conference 2nd place team Louisville City FC. This is the first meeting between the two clubs this season. The Independence official watch party will be held at Jack's House Soccer Bar and Retail store.
