ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Saint Louis FC Academy announced the hiring of Wichert de Wit as the new STLFC Illinois Academy Zone 1 Director and U13/14 Head Coach beginning on August 1.

De Wit joins Saint Louis FC from CUSA Crew SC where he was the club's Director of Coaching. Since 2014, he has also served as a coach for Ohio South ODP. De Wit started his career in the Netherlands where he was a Head Coach for v.v. Gorredijk and JV Oostenburg. He played professionally for a number of clubs in the Netherlands as a goalkeeper and finished his playing career with the Dayton Dutch Lions FC of the USL in 2013. De Wit has two bachelor's degrees in physical education and social work and holds his USSF B, NSCAA Premier, UEFA B and Youth Licenses. He is married to Hailey and has a daughter named Emersyn and son named Isaiah.

"Helping players make their first steps into the 11v11 game requires a patient, persistent and methodical approach that is difficult to find," said STLFC Academy Director Blake Decker. "However, in Wichert we have found a coach and leader with exactly those qualities. He has experience in developing, implementing and overseeing the execution of a club-wide curriculum in his previous role as Director of Coaching. Likewise, Wichert's detailed and thoughtful approach, always with the long-term in mind, will be of great value, not only to the players he coaches directly, but to all of the young players and coaches of young players in our Illinois Academy."

"It has always been a dream to work in a club with an U.S. Soccer Development Academy and a professional first-team," said de Wit. "I am thankful for the opportunity that Saint Louis FC is giving me and I look forward starting on August 1st."
