Reggie Taylor hit two home runs, and the Barnstormers added two more, but it wasn't enough to defeat Southern Maryland as the Blue Crabs won 8-6 Wednesday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The loss, coupled with Somerset's 3-2 win over Camden, dropped the Barnstormers three games back of the Patriots in the race for the second half Freedom Division crown.

The game did not start off well for the Barnstormers. Starter Jason Simontacchi recorded two quick outs, but Eric Crozier responded with a solo home run out to right field. Back to back singles followed, and then Richard Giannotti drove them all home with another home run.

Reggie Taylor cut the lead to three with his first home run of the game in the second inning, his 21st of the season. Simontacchi and Blue Crabs' starter Chris Anderson would throw scoreless frames for the next four innings, leaving the score 4-1 as the game went into the 7th.

Travis Howell led off the 7th with his first home run as a Blue Crab to extend Southern Maryland's lead to four. However, the Barnstormers wouldn't go down quietly. Reggie Taylor hit his second home run of the game, which gave him the Atlantic League lead with 22 on the season. Ryan Mulhern and Adam Witter would follow with back to back singles. Manager Tom Herr then sent pinch hitter Lloyd Turner to the plate, who promptly crushed a hanging pitch over the left-center field wall, scoring three and tying the game at 5. Reliever Steve Palozollo would come in and record the last two outs of the inning.

Rick Bauer came in to the 8th inning. Crozier would single off of him, and then Travis Garcia reached on an error by shortstop Bryant Nelson. Bauer would get the next two batters out, however, with the extra out due to the error, Ben Harrison would take advantage of it, hitting a home run that just barely cleared the right-center field wall, giving the Blue Crabs an 8-5 lead.

Aaron Herr cut the lead to two in the bottom of the 8th, however, the Barnstormers could not come all the way back, leaving the final score at 8-6. Palozollo (2-0) picked up the win while Bauer (0-3) took the loss, despite giving up no earned runs. Jim Ed Warden worked a scoreless 9th to pick up his 26th save of the season.

The Barnstormers finished 10-10 this season against the Blue Crabs. The Camden Riversharks come into town Thursday night, starting a four-game series with the Riversharks. The Barnstormers swept the Riversharks in a 3-game series in Camden last weekend.
