MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced on Friday that the club has waived Italian midfielder Marco Donadel.
"I want to thank Marco for his contribution to the Montreal Impact, on and off the field," said Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo. "He was a true professional and brought his precious experience to the team during important moments. He proudly wore the club's colours while immersing himself to life in Montreal with his family. I wish him a lot of success for the remainder of his career."
"This decision was made in order to give us some roster flexibility as we move into the summer transfer window," said Impact technical director Adam Braz. "We want to thank Marco for his contribution to the club over the last few years. His dedication and commitment is greatly appreciated and we wish him the best of luck moving forward."
Donadel, 35, appeared in 67 games and played 5,035 minutes, including 61 starts, in four MLS seasons between 2015 and 2018, recording three goals and 10 assists in MLS. He only appeared in two games this season, including one start.
He also recorded three assists in eight starts in the MLS Cup Playoffs, between 2015 and 2016. In 2015, he started four games in the CONCACAF Champions League Championship Stage and helped the team reach the final against Mexican giant Club América.
