Impact Unveils Its 2017 Schedule

MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact and Major League Soccer unveiled the 2017 regular season schedule on Thursday, the sixth in MLS club history. The regular season will hold a total of 34 games, of which 17 will take place at home, including the home opener at Olympic Stadium, and 17 on the road.

The Bleu-blanc-noir will kick off its season on Saturday, March 4, against the Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium, in San Jose, at 10pm ET and will then play its home opener on Saturday, March 11, at 7pm at Olympic Stadium against MLS Cup defending champions Seattle Sounders FC.

The Impact will follow with three games on the road, starting against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, March 18, followed by Chicago on Saturday, April 1, and Los Angeles Galaxy on Friday, April 7. The team will then return to Montreal to play its home opener at Stade Saputo on Saturday, April 15, against expansion club Atlanta United FC.

"The season looks to be very interesting once again, first with the visit of the MLS Cup holders at Olympic Stadium, followed by the first duel against Atlanta to open Stade Saputo," declared Impact executive vice-president Richard Legendre. "We are also very happy to have a lot of home games in July and August, along with the very last game of the season, for which the stakes might be high!"

The team will play 25 games on Saturdays and three on Sundays for a total of 28 games on weekend days, as well as six midweek games, including five on Wednesdays and one on a Friday.

Other interesting matchups

The Impact will face Canadian rival Toronto FC three times in 2017, starting on Sunday, August 27, at Stade Saputo. The team will then visit Toronto on Wednesday, September 20 and on Sunday, October 15.

The Impact will play Minnesota United FC, the second expansion club, for the first time on Saturday, September 16 at Stade Saputo. After hosting Atlanta in Montreal in April, the Impact will visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in Georgia, on Saturday, September 23.

The regular season will end on Sunday, October 22, as the Impact hosts New England Revolution at Stade Saputo.

Game times and the complete broadcast schedule are still to be determined. The Montreal Impact, MLS, and Québecor announced last Tuesday the signing of a five-year agreement making TVA Sports the exclusive French broadcaster of Montreal Impact games, as well as the official broadcaster of MLS for the next five years. The league also announced a new five-year deal with TSN as the official English MLS broadcaster.

In 2016, the Impact finished the regular season fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 11-11-12, for a total of 45 points. After defeating D.C. United in the knockout round and the New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference semifinals, the team fell to Toronto FC in the Eastern Conference Championship by a 7-5 aggregate score.
