Houston Dynamo 2017 Schedule Announced
January 12, 2017 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON- Major League Soccer announced the 2017 league schedule on Thursday, including the Houston Dynamo's 34-match slate for their 12th season and sixth at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The 2017 Houston Dynamo season, presented by 76©, opens on Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. CST at BBVA Compass Stadium against the defending MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC, followed immediately by a home date with Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, March 11. Houston will close the 2017 regular season at home as well, hosting the Chicago Fire on Decision Day, Sunday, October 22 at 3 p.m. CDT.
Seven of Houston's first 10 matches will be played in front of the home crowd, along with five of the final eight matches of the season. The Dynamo will only host five MLS matches during the months of June, July and August. Conversely, Houston will play 11 of its 17 away matches from mid-May through Labor Day, a span of 16 weeks.
The 17-match home schedule includes 11 Saturday dates, two Friday night matches, one Sunday and three mid-week matches on Wednesday nights. Only two Dynamo home matches - April 22 vs. San Jose and October 22 vs. Chicago - kick off earlier than 7:30 p.m. CT, and every home game in June, July and August kicks off at 8 p.m. CT.
For the first time since 2012, the Dynamo are not scheduled to have any home matches that conflict with the Houston Astros home schedule, which means more convenient arrivals due to less traffic in the area, significantly more parking options and easier entry to BBVA Compass Stadium.
Dynamo 2017 Season Ticket Memberships are available starting at $310 and include tickets to every Dynamo regular season home game, along with tickets to the annual BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup, exclusive presale opportunities for international friendlies and concerts at BBVA Compass Stadium, and access to Members-only events such as pregame chalk talks with Dynamo coaches and the annual Meet the Team Day.
Tickets for the opening match start at $20 and are on sale now, and individual match tickets for the remaining home matches as well as partial season ticket plans will go on sale in the coming weeks. Fans can secure their seats online at HoustonDynamo.com, by phone at 713-276-GOAL and at the BBVA Compass Stadium box office.
The Dynamo are scheduled to play six nationally-televised matches in 2017, including all editions of the Texas Derby rivalry series with FC Dallas. Five of Houston's six national TV matchups will be featured on UniMás, including back-to-back matches on Saturday, June 17 at the LA Galaxy and Friday, June 23 at home against Dallas. The Texas Derby will be featured on FOX Sports 1 on Sunday, May 28 - Memorial Day Weekend - in Frisco.
The full broadcast and promotional schedules for the Dynamo will be released in the coming days.
With the introduction of two new teams, one in each conference, the Major League Soccer schedule went through some adjustments for 2017. Teams will continue to play an unbalanced schedule, with the Dynamo set to play each of the 11 Eastern Conference team once, seven Western Conference opponents twice, and three Western Conference foes - FC Dallas, Minnesota United and San Jose - three times apiece.
MLS will take a nine-day break in July (July 7-16) for the opening round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. BBVA Compass Stadium will host an opening-round double header on Tuesday, July 11 featuring Group A, which will be headlined by Costa Rica. The draw for the remaining places in each of the three groups will take place later this spring. Other than Gold Cup elimination rounds, none of the Dynamo's regular-season matches this season coincide with FIFA-sanctioned competition dates.
As the club heads into the first season under the leadership of new head coach Wilmer Cabrera, the Dynamo have overhauled their roster in recent weeks with the addition of six new players, including five international players. Honduran forwards Alberth Elis and Romell Quioto, Colombian midfielder Juan David Cabezas and Brazilian defender Leonardo and Panamanian defender Adolfo Machado join Chicago-native defender Dylan Remick as new faces in Orange this season.
DYNAMO HOME SCHEDULE NOTES
- The Dynamo will play their sixth season at BBVA Compass Stadium, which will match the club's original home of Robertson Stadium for the longest tenure in one facility.
- The Dynamo have an all-time record of 92-25-51 in Houston and are 42-18-25 all-time at BBVA Compass Stadium in MLS play.
- The Dynamo are scheduled to play 11 home matches on Saturdays, two on Friday nights, one on Sunday and three on Wednesday nights.
- Only two Dynamo home games are scheduled to kick off before 7:30 p.m. Central Time. Houston will host San Jose at 3 p.m. CDT on Saturday, April 22 in a match that will be televised nationally on UniMás and will close the season with a date against the Chicago Fire at 3 p.m. CST. All matches on Decision Day are scheduled to start concurrently in order to preserve competitive balance.
- Seven of Houston's first 10 matches this season will be played in the friendly confines of BBVA Compass Stadium, and five of Houston's final eight matches will be played at home.
- The Dynamo will host the winners of every MLS Cup since 2008 during the 2017 season: Seattle (2016), Portland (2015), LA Galaxy (2014, 2012, 2011), Sporting Kansas City (2013), Colorado (2010), Real Salt Lake (2009) and Columbus (2008).
- The Dynamo will only have five home games during the months of June, July and August - one in June, two in July and two in August.
- The Dynamo will play back-to-back home matches five times during the course of the season.

- Houston will host a pair of matches during the MLS Heineken Rivalry Week promotional windows. The Dynamo host FC Dallas on Friday, June 23 and Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, August 26.
- The Dynamo are scheduled to have two nationally-televised home matches in 2017: against San Jose on Saturday, April 22 and against FC Dallas on Friday, June 23.
- The Dynamo are scheduled to play home games on or near April Fool's Day (April 1), Cinco de Mayo (May 6), Mother's Day (May 12), Memorial Day (May 31), the Fourth of July (July 5) and Labor Day (September 9).
- The Dynamo will play two home games in March, three in April, three in May, one in June, two in July, two in August, three in September and one in October.
DYNAMO AWAY SCHEDULE NOTES
- The Dynamo will fly as many as 20,347 air miles during the 2017 regular season, assuming the team flies directly to each destination directly and returns to Houston afterwards.
- Assuming that the Dynamo continue the club's policy of traveling to West Coast matches two days prior to matches and returning from all away trips the day following the match, the team would spend 39 nights in hotels during the course of the season.
- In 17 away matches, the Dynamo will visit 15 teams once each and will visit FC Dallas twice.
- Houston's longest away trip will be to Vancouver, BC, Canada for a match on Saturday, August 19. A direct flight from Houston to Vancouver is 1,971 miles and the estimated flight time four hours, 14 minutes.
- The Dynamo will play matches in 13 American states and two Canadian provinces during the 2017 season.
- Houston plays on the road 11 times in a span of 16 matches from May 17 through August 23.
- The Dynamo are 38-83-57 all-time away from home and were 2-9-6 on the road in 2016.
- The Dynamo enter 2017 on a five-match unbeaten run away from home. Houston ended the 2016 season by gaining results in each of its last five road contests, picking up two wins and three draws.
- Houston will add two new destinations to its travel list in 2017, visiting Atlanta and Minneapolis for the first time thanks to the additions of Atlanta United FC and Minnesota United FC. The Dynamo travel to Atlanta on Saturday, May 20 and to Minnesota on Wednesday, July 19.
- The Dynamo will visit FC Dallas twice this season - on Memorial Day Weekend (Sunday, May 28) and on Wednesday, August 23.
- The Dynamo will make two forays north of the border in 2017, visiting Toronto FC on Friday, April 28 and the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, August 19. Houston made three trips to Canada in 2016, visiting Vancouver twice and Montreal once.
- Houston will play consecutive matches away from home five times in 2017, including a season-long stretch of three straight matches away from home during the month of May (at Philadelphia, at Atlanta, at FC Dallas).
- Houston will play in four nationally-televised away matches: at FC Dallas on May 28, at the LA Galaxy on June 17, at FC Dallas on August 23 and at New York City FC on September 23.
- The Dynamo will play one away match in March, two in April, three in May, two in June, three in July, three in August, two in September and one in October.
