Club de Foot Montreal News Release
CHICAGO, Illinois - The Montreal Impact selected on Friday midfielder Amar Sejdic, from the University of Maryland, with the 10th pick of the second round (34th overall), in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.
"Amar is an intelligent player who sees the game well," said head coach Rémi Garde. "He's a player who can help our midfield with his vision and his forward passing. I hope he'll be able to quickly close the gap between the university level and the professional level."
"I had an interview with the Impact during the MLS Player Combine and I sensed interest from the club," said Amar Sejdic. "I think head coach Rémi Garde trusts in my game and that's why he selected me. I'm very excited to mould myself in this new team and I think I'll be able to fit in very well."
Sejdic, 22, recorded 22 goals and 16 assists in 82 career games, all starts, in four seasons with the University of Maryland Terrapins, between 2015 and 2018. He was named a Second Team All-North Region by United Soccer Coaches in 2018 and twice a First Team All-Big 10 Conference, in 2016 and 2018.
Wearing the captain's armband, he helped Maryland win its fourth NCAA title last December 9, scoring the game's lone goal from the penalty spot in the 57th minute, in a 1-0 win against Akron. He was then named the College Cup Most Valuable Player.
He was previously part of the Vitesse Arnhem academy, in the Netherlands, playing with the U19 team in 2013 and 2014.
The Impact did not hold a selection in the first round, after sending its pick to FC Dallas last December in a trade for Argentine striker Maximiliano Urruti.
Transaction: The Montreal Impact selected midfielder Amar Sejdic with the 10th pick of the second round in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.
